Keiko SHIRAISHI è tra i pochi pittori scenografi ancora attivi nella realizzazione di fondali teatrali dipinti interamente a mano secondo la tradizione italiana, in un ambito storicamente e prevalentemente maschile. Accanto all’attività professionale, promuove la scenografia pittorica come forma di scenografia sostenibile, valorizzandone le qualità artistiche col ridotto impatto ambientale. È inoltre impegnata nella conservazione e nella continuità della Sala di Scenografia Koki Fregni del Teatro Comunale Pavarotti – Freni di Modena, unica struttura storica di questo genere ancora operativa in Italia.

Dal 1997 è socio del Japan Association of Theatre Designers & Technicians (JATDT), la sede giapponese dell’OISTAT (International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians).

Keiko SHIRAISHI is among the few scenic painters still practising the traditional Italian art of creating large-scale theatrical backdrops painted entirely by hand, in a profession that has historically been and remains predominantly male. In parallel with her professional work, she promotes painted scenery as a model of sustainable stage design, enhancing its artistic excellence, with a reduced environmental impact. At the same time she is also dedicated to the preservation and continuity of the Sala di scenografia Koki Fregni within the Teatro Comunale di Modena, the only historic scenic painting atelier of its kind still active in Italy.

Since 1997, she has been a member of the Japan Association of Theatre Designers & Technicians (JATDT), the Japanese branch of the OISTAT (International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians).
